SUMMARY:Classes at Rite: Exploring Tea through Gongfu Brewing
DESCRIPTION:Gongfucha (工夫茶) – “tea made with time and effort” – is a Chinese style of brewing and serving tea that developed in southern China during the Song dynasty\, and is currently experiencing a renaissance. This class is a hands-on exploration and tasting of a selection of our fresh and vintage teas through gongfu-style brewing with a gaiwan. You will have the opportunity to try brewing 2 types of tea and making multiple steeps of each. All guests will each have their own gongfu teaware set to play with\, but will share water kettles and taste each other’s teas – so bring a friend or two to brew some tea together! Guests will also get a 10% discount on any tea purchases immediately after the tasting. Please note: there are 8 seats available; some are forward-facing\, more spacious\, and closer to the water kettles than others. Seats will be claimed first-come first-served on the day of the event. \nThis class is taught by Yin Guan of Broken Cup Teahouse: a Cambridge\, MA-based\, Asian woman-owned small business that specializes in sourcing single-origin\, artisanal teas directly from tea makers in China\, Taiwan\, and Korea\, and brings people together over tea to experience beauty in a cup.
